Artist Statement

Hello, there. I am Stephanie Ribeiro.

I explore the wonder of existence as an interdisciplinary artist, both a painter and a storyteller. This exploration takes shape in a captivating fusion of the surreal and the spiritual, where I continually contemplate, create, and craft stories using various mediums and techniques. This artistic voyage has led me to define my practice as Somatic Artistry, a blend of art-making, poetry, and rituals. My brushstrokes are a mix of grace and assertiveness. I use poetry for contemplation and healing. I enjoy burning palo santo, adding essential oils to the canvas, and inviting God’s grace into my work.

At the heart of my creative process is an unwavering passion for beginnings, infusing each creation with the anticipation of new life. My art invites viewers into a sanctuary of contemplation, urging them to delve into intricate details, embrace raw emotions, and immerse themselves in tactile richness. Beyond aesthetics, my art serves as a portal into the soul, celebrating the enigmatic beauty of life and the profound depths of existence. It also incorporates my love for poetry as a new form of expression and playfulness, with video and short animations further deepening the connection and appreciation of my art.

Influenced by Georgia O’Keeffe, Miriam Schapiro, and Hilma af Klint, my work embodies Abstract Realism, Femmage Art, and Visionary Art, reflecting my vibrant Brazilian-American identity. These influences have deepened my artistic journey through transformative experiences, and my aspiration is to continue evolving and resonating with viewers on a profound level. Through my art, I aim to invite others to explore their spirituality and engage with the surreal aspects of existence, making it a transformative journey into the unknown—an odyssey of exploration and enlightenment.

My Story

I am Stephanie, a Brazilian-American currently residing in Saint Augustine, FL, with my family. As a mother, my primary focus is dedicating myself to the well-being of my family. I am an interdisciplinary artist who finds fulfillment in the contemplative journey of creation. As an art teacher, I believe that education serves as a pathway to freedom.

My educational background includes an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College and a BFA in Art Education from the Academy of Art University. I have furthered my knowledge through certifications from the Isha Institute (Inner Engineering Program) and Transformation Academy (Therapeutic Art Life Coach). Currently, I am engaged in the Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute and the Cosmovisionário program at Instituto MXT.

I express my gratitude to God, Mother Nature, Father Sky, and ancestors. Born in Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil, on the land of the Karajá de Aruanã, I now reside in Saint Augustine, Florida, on the land of the extinct Timucua tribe.

My beliefs center around dedication, contemplation, and freedom, principles that resonate through my family life, artistic pursuits, and teaching endeavors. I am thankful for the blessings and grace bestowed upon me by God. The ability to pursue my studies, express myself through art, and cherish the bonds of family fills me with appreciation, especially for my partner, children (Jr. and Belle), and our furry companions.

Gratitude extends to my ancestors and family for providing a platform for growth and evolution. I acknowledge the role of my parents, expressing thanks to Mom and Dad. My teachers, Gale Jackson and Erica Eaton, deserve my heartfelt gratitude for igniting my curiosity and understanding.

As I conclude, I extend a word of gratitude to myself, Stephanie, for embodying dedication, resilience, and unwavering love for life’s journey. Through it all, I am grateful for the path that allows me to embrace my studies, find joy in creativity, and nurture the precious connections binding my cherished family together.
